In preparation for LCHA’s next parade participation, we will be holding tryouts and training.
This is a good activity to participate in with your horse even if you don’t plan on riding in a parade. Any horse is welcomed!
If you plan on leading a horse in a parade off the back of another horse, then that is how you need to participate on this day. Having said that, we do not want any riders on the horse that is being led while participating in tryouts. All horses will be circling the arena at a walk, either in pairs or single file, just as if we are riding in a parade. Any participants that want to have their horses experience this activity, but do not want to ride, can stand in the corners of the arena holding their horses. All sensory items will be activated in the center of the arena. We are trying to imitate most things that will happen at the Veterans parade. The Veterans Parade theme is ‘Honoring Veteran First Responders’, so I expect a lot of what we are throwing at you. Examples are gunshots, fireworks, smoke bombs, sirens, flashing lights, balloons popping, etc.
I will conduct this in a building block manner, meaning we will start slow and build as we watch the horses. I will only do one session, because it will take approximately 30 minutes. If you have more than one horse, bring a handler for each horse. If you have a horse that you might loan out to someone to use in a parade, said horse must participate in tryouts.
Don’t worry, I’ve done these before. Horses do better than we expect.

ALL participants will sign a release, even if you’re not on a horse.
This is a great way to build a partnership with your horse and participate in something you’ve never done before!! I look forward to conducting this tryout and seeing everyone there!
